One of our key objectives at The Institutes of Trichologists is to do all we can to raise awareness of our industry and to highlight the wonderful benefits of seeking professional advice from a registered trichologist.

Increasingly, we are using the media to communicate advice, guidance, expert comment and ‘top tips’ directly to potential patients and members of the public – many of whom may not have even heard of trichology or be aware of the full range of services and treatments we that, as professionals, can provide for a variety of conditions affecting hair and the scalp.

Indeed, over the past 12 months you may have noticed comments and quotes from members of our media panel in a number of national publications from the Daily Mail, Express, Times, Telegraph, Prima magazine, Channel 4’s Steph’s Packed Lunch and ITV Granada News (to name but a few).

We’re therefore delighted to announce that this Autumn sees the launch of an exciting new 6-part series to be broadcast on satellite network, the Discovery Channel + and Quest Red.

Over a year in the making, the documentary style programme called “The Hair Clinic, features the Institute’s current Chair, Eva Proudman as the resident trichologist, alongside internationally acclaimed hair loss expert, Dr Edward Maitland Ball of the Maitland Clinic (who will be ‘opening the doors’ of his clinic to observe 4 hair transplant procedures as part of this unique programme).

Throughout the course of the series, viewers will follow the treatment journeys of 18 patients, all suffering with different conditions, requiring individual approaches and therapies. The show will sensitively capture the range of emotions and anxieties as Eva and Edward are first introduced to their new patients and will engage viewers as they guide them through their options, tracking their progress and leading them to a powerful ‘reveal’ at an appropriate point in their treatment pathway.

Eva comments; “When I was approached by the production company about the possibility of filming a Hair Clinic series, my first thought was that it would be a brilliant platform to promote Trichology as a much needed service and something that I was happy to do for my fellow IOT Members and Trichologists! It’s the first time that cameras have ever been ‘behind the scenes’ of the world of trichology and in my opinion, the show will really shine a light on our skills and services and highlight the difference we can make to so many of our patients’ lives by looking at their symptoms holistically and treating everyone as an individual.

“It’s been a long, time-consuming and at times, tiring, process, with particular challenges during lockdown, but I enjoyed every minute of the filming, editing and production as well as meeting so many wonderful people – not least our incredible patients. I really hope everyone enjoys watching it as much as I enjoyed making it, and I know it will really help to benefit our industry and all of our practices and clinics as the public become more and more aware of the value of trichology.”

The first episode of The Hair Clinic will be broadcast at 10pm on Tuesday 12th October
