We are writing to introduce you to the updated and simplified Code of Professional Practice and Ethics for IOT Trichologists. While the principles of the Code remain consistent with its previous version, we have taken steps to improve its clarity and presentation. These changes are designed to make it easier for you to understand and apply the Code in your professional practice.
Key Updates
- Clarity of Requirements: We’ve reorganised the Code into nine overriding principles, and shifted the emphasis from “you should” to “you must” in order to reflect the importance of adhering to the ethical standards outlined.
- Introduction Note: We’ve included a new note in the Introduction to clarify that the Code should be ‘interpreted in the spirit in which it is intended. Specifically, minor or unintentional breaches will not automatically trigger a Fitness to Practise investigation’.
- Removal of Student Code Reference: We’ve removed references to a student code, as they are already required to sign a comprehensive separate Code upon enrolment.
- New Points on Informed Consent: We’ve added points 6.2 – 6.4 under “Obtain informed consent for all aspects of patient care,” particularly focusing on consent for examinations and related procedures.
- Simplification and Streamlining: We have reduced the number of points in the Code, eliminating some previous repetition to ensure a more concise and straightforward document.
Please find the updated Code of Professional Practice and Ethics here for your review. We believe these changes will enhance the understanding of the ethical standards expected within our profession and help ensure the highest level of care for your patients.
